We have all heard the stories – ie. geese flying in a “v” formation, what 2 horses can pull together verses what they can pull individually, ten hands put the ball through the hoop, etc

We have all heard the cliche’s – ie. there is no “I” in team, teamwork is dreamwork, all for one and one for all.

To me teamwork is a major secret to success. Teamwork is important in every area of life.

  • God – this is my favorite team - He and I make an army. I try to start each day with Him and know that my time with Him changes everything.  He is beyond description!!
  • Marriage – my wife is my biggest asset! From a human standpoint, Denise, is the biggest reason for all my successes in life. She is honest with me, loves me more than I deserve and is loyal beyond reason.
  • Parenting – Just this week alone, Denise and I spent time with Seth’s school teacher and a couple of the children’s workers from church. This evening he is spending the night with very dear friends. Denise and I are his coaches but we have a great team around us!
  • Church – In just the last few days I have had several people comment about the incredible team God has surrounded me with. It is wonderful to hear people in our church talk about the other leaders in our church that they respect. Not only do we have incredible leaders, but our volunteers are phenomenal!!
  • Staff and Elders – I know this group could fit in the above category, but I wanted to say a little more.  Our Elders have a heart for the Lord and have a laser focus on the spiritual health and development of our church family. Our staff are an incredibly dedicated group of extremely talented people who have a passion for God and a love for people. Both our elders and staff are very loyal to me and that is invaluable. There is no competition, we serve the Lord together!

Today, I am celebrating my teams and our teamwork!!!!!

The following is today’s devotional in, Dwell, a daily devotional guide our church makes available. A member in our church emailed me the article and I thought it was worth sharing:
Cyrus McCormick’s father dreamed of inventing a machine to harvest crops. He tinkered for years, but it was Cyrus who became famous for inventing the reaper. Cyrus went to Chicago at age 38 with $60 in his pocket to open his factory. By age 40 he was a millionaire.
He met a young lady from New York, Nettie Fowler. Nettie was striking, tall, graceful, with shining brown eyes. The radiance on her face, Cyrus learned, came from her relationship with Christ. They fell in love and married on January 26, 1859. Nettie was 26 years younger than Cyrus, and the couple enjoyed 26 years together. Cyrus’ death in 1884 left Nettie wealthy beyond belief. What did she do with her money?
She established McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago for young Presbyterian ministers. She enabled John R. Mott of the Student Volunteer Movement to go to the ends of the earth to organize student missions. She helped form the World’s Student Christian Federation. She contributed to the evangelic campaigns of D. L. Moody. She supported Wilfred Grenfell, missionary to Labrador, and George Livingstone Robinson, archaeologist to Petra. She funded Tusculum College in Tennessee, and gave generously to educational efforts in Appalachia.
She absorbed herself in Asian missions, and her house off Michigan Avenue in Chicago became a Christian halfway house between the Orient and the West, a center of international Christianity. It was always full of missionaries and overseas Christians.
She improved the water supply in one country, provided a hospital in another, and a Christian college in another. She built a women’s clinic in Persia and a seminary in Korea. She sent agricultural machines to India.
She did it all in the name of Christ. But she never thought of herself as a great giver. Others, she felt, did more. She could give money, but “… the greatest gift of all comes from the self-sacrifice and devotion of missionaries,” she said.
You can tell where people’s hearts are by looking at their check stubs.

I wanted to post a link to a news story that involves 3 Angels Orphanage. This past weekend we collected breakfast bars and crackers and partnered with Life Coast Church to make a difference in Haiti. Watch this clip as Mike and Gretchen share a little bit of their story. The 26 children who were brought to the U.S. were already in the process of adoption and the embasssy fast tracked their process so they could be placed in the home of their adoptive parents.

This weekend we will be receiving an offering to take our next step to help in Haiti. With our offering we will partner with  Convoy of Hope, Churches Helping Churches and we will also use some of the funds for our own personal involvement in Haiti.

Please pray about what the Lord would have you to give. Let’s join together in generosity and do our part in helping reach the people of Haiti!

Can’t wait to see you this weekend! We are going to have an awesome weekend. Be sure to arrive on time and come prepared to WORSHIP!

  • As I mentioned in my last post, our church responded in a great way to the needs in Haiti.
  • Pastor Mike Wehde and Lifecoast Church have also done an awesome job reaching out. As I mentioned, they already had a relationship with 3 Angels Orphanage in Port-au-Prince.
  • I spoke with Mike a couple times yesterday, as well as a couple texts.
  • He was trying to find a flight for 26 kids and 6 workers who had received embassy permission to flee Haiti and come to the states.
  • Long story short, Mission Aviation Fellowship flew the whole group to Ft. Peirce last night!!
  • I told Mike that Parkview is prepared to help in whatever way possible. I will keep you posted.
  • This weekend we will be receiving an offering to help in Haiti relief, recovery and renewal.
  • Be sure to pray for the people of Haiti and how God would have us participate.

  • Had a great Discovery Pointe luncheon with new friends.
  • Really appreciate the amazing team that the Lord has surrounded me with – staff, elders, finance team, building team, etc…
  • Very thankful for our small group leaders! This coming semester we have 31 classes or life groups to choose from. If you attend Parkview, be sure to get connected in a group. Click here to sign up.

During the holidays our waistlines grow and our wallets shrink. As a result, I have a few thoughts to share. Perhaps only waistlines today and wallets tomorrow.

Random thoughts on waistlines:

  • To lose weight it requires a one, two punch – diet and exercise!!!!!
  • I pretty much hate exercising, although I do love the positive benefits, mainly physical and emotional energy.
  • I am a horrible eater – I love everything that is bad for me and hate everything good for me ( a little exageration but not much)
  • Denise is trying to help me eat better.
  • Some things I have eaten in the last few days – oatmeal with honey, fish with multi grain rice, celery and peanut butter, peanut butter sandwhich with 8 grain bread, scrambled eggs with hot sauce, sloopy joe with ground turkey on some wheat thin bread thing (actually was delicious), a lot of chicken. Yes, I have also had pizza, soda and some desserts but I am trying to do it in more moderation.
  • Soda is so good and yet so NASTY for your health. I am drinking more water this year!
  • For me the current goal is to run 10 miles a week. Last week I ran 7 and most of those were in temperatures around freezing.  Even though I didn’t hit my goal last week, I will shoot for it again this week.
  • I currently weigh around 203 and would like to get to 190. Saying that makes me a little more accountable.
  • Some good books I have read are – Body by God and Heart Health for Men.
  • Our bodies are a gift to us from God and also His dwelling place, we need to take good care of them.
  • One of the things we can give our spouses, children, friends and co-workers is a healthy self.
  • You are responsible for yourself. Nobody can take care of your body but you!
  • There are some of you at church who have lost some weight – Here is a SHOUT OUT to you – you look amazing! Way to go!!
  • What are you doing to get healthier and trim your waistline?

  • Loving the new series, Ritual. We unpacked communion this weekend and had a great time as a congregation!
  • So sweet to look back and look ahead.
  • So challenging to look within!
  • Communion is a common union, hence the reason it comes from the greek word koinonia, which in other places is interpreted fellowship.
  • Jesus became our Passover Lamb!
  • Passover to the Isrealites is similar to what 4th of July is to us; both are a celebration of a nation’s independence.
  • Celebrating communion today was awesome!
  • We have an incredible church family who love to offer their all in worship.
  • Felt really bad for those who thought it was too cold for church this weekend.
  • It was cold outside but hot in the church!
  • I am very grateful for all those who make God’s house a priority. God’s Word says, “this do ye in remembrance of me”, because you were there, “this DID ye”!
  • Excited about our Good News Club at Rymfire Elementary this semester.
  • We had a very good response of people who want to volunteer at the club – Thanks to all who joined the team!
  • This is going to be an incredible season for Parkview.
  • We had one doggy downer for the day – two cars were broken into in the parking lot. I say that to encourage you to hide valuables. Both cars had purses on the front seats. Thankfully the purses were later recovered, minus credit cards and cash, but they did get back keys, etc..
  • Volunteer appreciation night on Thursday is going to be phenomenal!!
  • I can’t wait to honor our volunteers!!
  • See all of our volunteers on Thursday!!!
